Jail time for Homer Glen man who cut brother's cat's throat!

Dear Ms McGuire, this senseless act of cruelty towards an animal should NOT be tolerated. Killing a animal out of spite because you are upset with a family member, is as good as murdering a person. Please help me in getting as many signatures as possible to make sure this man goes to jail and not end up with just a fine!

A Homer Glen man is accused of killing his brother's cat following an argument this week.

Sean M. Mulcahy, 30, of the 144000 block of Heatherwood Drive, was scheduled to appear in Will County Court Friday. He is charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal for allegedly cutting the cat's throat Thursday.

Will County sheriff's police spokesman Pat Barry said the two brothers were arguing at a residence on the 141000 block of Cokes Road when Mulcahy left.

A little before 5 p.m., Mulcahy texted his older brother a message saying, "That is what you are doing to me." An accompanying photo showed him holding the bloody and apparently lifeless cat, Barry said.

The older brother, who filed for an emergency order of protection in Will County Court Thursday, considered the text message to be a threat and summoned sheriff's police, Barry said.

Detectives arriving at the home noticed a pool of blood in the driveway; the cat was buried nearby, Barry said.

Mulcahy told investigators he used a knife to cut the cat's throat, Barry said.

Illinois law makes killing a companion animal a Class 4 felony, which carries a prison sentence of up to three years or a $25,000 fine.

Mulcahy, who was in the Will County Adult Detention Facilty this morning morning, is the second Will County resident in two months to be arrested by sheriff's police on a charge of aggravated cruelty to an animal.

On July 3, Eric E. Tezak, 42, of the 600 block of Ruby Street, Joliet, was taken into custody for allegedly shooting his dog to death. The dog reportedly had bitten a neighbor on May 26. Tezak is scheduled to appear in Will County Court on Sept. 2 for a pretrial hearing. He is free on $10,000 bail.

PLEASE NOTE: The picture of the cat in this petition is NOT the actual animal that was killed. This is MY cat that passed a way a few years ago after a hit-and-run accident.
