Regarding Zarni

We, undersigned Burmese in exile and democracy activists believe that Dr. Zar Ni is an apologists to the Military junta of Burma.  The e-petition urges the international institutions to be cautious in their dealings with Dr. Zarni and his organisation the Free Burma Coalition (FBC).

Dr. Zarni set up the Free Burma Coalition, a virtual reality, and grassroot organisation in early 1990s, which carried out a number of successful campaigns against the military junta namely: the boycott Pepsi campaign etc. 

In 2003, Dr. Zarni held a discussion with the key FBC members to change the course of it's campaign from pro-economic sanction campaign against military junta (campaign supported by the Pro-Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi) to a more constructive engagement role with junta.  The leading members of the FBC decided to resigned from the FBC and set up US Campaign for Democracy in Burma.

The FBC attempted to form a think tank group called Burma Strategy Group comprised of many intellectual Burmese who were drawn into it without having their input into the group's policy.  Dr. Zarni decided to go and meet the military generals.  After his retune from Burma he had Burmese critical of Pro-Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.  He called upon the Burmese exile to give in to the demands made by the brutal military junta.  He had been quiet vocal in his criticising the movement.  He used Burmese media outside Burma to air opinions on people who believe in establishing Democracy in Burma.  His strong opinions resembles the attack from the junta upon people who espier Democracy in Burma.            

The Burma Strategy Group disintegrated with members leaving the group who do not wish to associate themselves with the organisation.  Dr. Zarni now operates under the brand name of "Independent" analyst on Burma to popularise his un-Democratic views in the international institutions.  His strategy does not provide any solutions but criticise every aspect of democracy movement.
