Revoke the Ordinance Against Feeding the Homeless!

  • by: Freya H
  • recipient: El Cajon, CA City Council

City officials say the ordinance is a way to protect the public from hepatitis A, but critics have called it a punitive measure to dehumanize and criminalize the homeless.

People have a right to perform acts of charity and altruism. The homeless are the most vulnerable members of society, and they need whatever help others can provide. Outlawing such selflessness reflects very poorly on our society. We the undersigned call for this cruel ordnance to be revoked, and for not just El Cajon but other cities in California to instead work with activist and nonprofit groups - as well as the homeless themselves - to find real solutions to this persistent problem.
