The Humane Society of Cowlizt County (HSCC) in Longview, Washington is a non-profit organization in the State of Washington (not affiliated to Humane Society of the United States)
This shelter takes in strays and owners-released domesticated animals and provides contracted animal control services for the cities of Longview, Kelso, Castle Rock, Woodland and Cowlitz County. It operates on approximately $1M annually and yet the poor animals are being forced to live, eat and sleep in their own feces and animals have come out of the shelter with rash all over it's body (see picture above)
Numerous independent reports and well-documented public outcry over the poor conditions at the HSCC animal shelter and the inadequate care being provided to the animals has led to an investigation by One Animal World (OAW), a non-profit watchdog group.
Contrary to HSCC's continuous claims of not having enough money to operate properly, OAW investigation revealed what appears to be significant financial discrepancies spanning several years!
After OAW's meeting with Dave Spurgeon of Futcher Group, HSCC's treasurer and paid CPA, it was revealed that the information provided in the organization's official tax forms was a guesstimate by the CPA and because there are "no records" kept and management is not keeping track of how the staff spends their time, they are unable to provide more clear information.
Something is wrong and the board of directors is refusing to act. The community deserves answers and the animals deserve action.
Please join us to demand that the Humane Society of Cowlitz County submit to an independent audit for the past seven years and that all their contracted stakeholders withhold funds and / or refuse to renew their contract, until all expenditures are confirmed by receipts.
