Please Investigate Sam Newsome in regard to Wolf Killings

We are petitioning that you investigate Sam Newsome for the horrible fate that came to several dogs that were owned by Robert Artois of Black Wolf Rescue in Virginia. His claims to a newspaper recently were false according to what a number of animal rescuers were told about their placement. The people who are supposed to protect them... murdered them. They had a chance for a decent life, and the rescuers would have seen to that, they would have saved them. But their efforts were haulted by Prince William Animal Control.

Many of us have sent in letters and many of us are still going to do that.  This is unforgiveable and Sam Newsome made comments to the press that were not true according to many accounts given by the rescuers who tried to help save them.

Maria Hegstad had been writing about this case and we need to quote from her newsarticles to make some of our points of how Newsome did not tell the truth of the matter and only said what made the Animal Control look good.

"The wolf dogs rescued from the now-defunct Black Wolf Rescue in
Dumfries were killed last week after Prince William Animal Control
authorities couldn't find a sanctuary for them.

"We did everything we could to find them appropriate placement," Animal
Control Director Samson C. Newsome said in a phone interview.

During the search, Newsome said he would only place the wolf dogs with
an approved sanctuary because of his concerns about public safety and
because of the conditions the animals endured at Black Wolf Rescue.

Wolf dog enthusiasts and animal activists responded with outrage after hearing about the wolf dogs' deaths.

The wolves were killed June 27 in accordance with a court order and in
consultation with the Prince William County Attorney's and
Commonwealth's Attorney's offices, Newsome said.

"If they'd contacted me, I'd have had volunteers out and we'd have been
pen-building," Brown said. "There's full and there's full. I'm full to
owners who want to dump their dogs. But if animal control has a dog,
and it's life or death…"

But Newsome said Tuesday that type of solution makes him nervous,
particularly in light of the conditions the Black Wolf Rescue animals
endured before they were seized.

Newsome said he didn't recall Brown's sanctuary or receiving the fax.
He said the wolf dogs were not even close to being ready for release in
April.

The animals weren't ordered into animal control authority until June 1.
Prior to that, they were under veterinary care at the shelter, most for
malnutrition, parasites and skin ailments.

"Good people are left to make difficult decisions based on other
people's bad decisions. That goes back to Mr. Artois and the breeder,"
Newsome said.  CLICK HERE to read the article in full.
