Support the Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act

Millions of kids around the country don't know where their next meal is coming from, especially during the summer when school is out.

Access to food is a necessity for all, especially to help kids grow up healthy and strong. Unfortunately, too many children, especially those living in rural areas with little access to grocery stores or meal sites, go to sleep hungry most nights.

Send a message to your members of Congress: support the Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act to give more children access to nutritious foods during the summer.
Subject: Cosponsor the Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act (S. 2005)

We all want kids in the U.S. to grow up healthy and strong, and nutritious food is the building block for young bodies and minds.

Unfortunately, not all children have access to an adequate amount of nutritious food during the summer months when school is out. This is especially true for kids who don't live near food distribution sites and/or live in food deserts.

That's why I urge you to cosponsor the bipartisan Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act (S. 2005). This bill is a step in the right direction. It will help fight childhood hunger and improve access to nutritious foods. It would permanently authorize the pilot Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program. Summer EBT provides families with funds to purchase nutritious foods on a convenient EBT card. This is invaluable for families that don't have easy access to summer meal sites but live near stores where food can be purchased.

For the millions of Americans in rural and urban areas who live in food deserts where they can't purchase nutritious foods with EBT, this act will allow for innovative approaches to reach children, including mobile services and delivery of nutritious meals directly to children's homes. As an advocate for children, I urge you to cosponsor the Support the Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act to help ensure we can help feed children all across America, no matter their zip code, all year round.

Thank you.
