A Driver Tied His Dogs to the Back of His Car and Dragged Them Down a Street. Now, He Wants Them Back.

A New York City man tied a German shepherd and pit bull to the back of his car and literally dragged them down a street in Long Island City.

His defense? That he didn't want the dogs "pooping inside the car."

Luckily, witnesses on the scene were able to stop the car and intervene on behalf of the poor animals, who against all odds managed to survive this brutality. But this kind of abuse is inexcusable, and we need to put pressure on local authorities to stop it from happening again. If this man did it to these dogs -- his own animals -- he could certainly do it, or worse, to others in the future.

Sign now to tell NYC authorities: include mandatory mental health counseling and a ban on animal ownership in this man's sentence to ensure he does not abuse more innocent animals!

These poor dogs suffered greatly before bystanders stepped in and saved them. Their poor paws were torn up, their skin was inflamed, one had a ruptured ear drum, and either one or both were severely underweight. Clearly, neglect and abuse had been happening before the torturous car ordeal.

The incident itself is obviously alarming, but the way the man responded in court is even more shocking. According to court documents, the perpetrator claimed that tying two animals to the back of his car and dragging them down the street was a "lapse in judgment," and that losing the dogs because of his case "would kill him."

Everything about this man's statement is contradictory -- he almost just killed those very dogs that he claims to love so much.

This man has already been rightfully charged with animal cruelty, but it's our job to ensure authorities prevent him from repeating this horrible abuse with these animals in the future. Local officials must include mandatory health counseling in this man's sentence, as well as a total ban on future animal ownership! Sign the petition now if you agree!
