Revoke Westboro Baptist Church's Tax-Exempt Status

The funerals for the the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School were moments to honor the too-short lives of these kids. Instead, in the days before families and the community had to battle with Westboro Baptist Church, who threatened to protest the funerals of murdered children to, in its founders' words "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."

Westboro Baptist is a tiny fundamentalist sect -- comprising hardly more than one hateful man and his family. They've made the news for years protesting military funerals and more with signs with their tagline "God Hates Fags."

Both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League classify Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group, yet, because of their "religious" affiliation, the organization is still tax-exempt. A group who's main purpose is to harass, intimidate and hate should not get tax breaks to do so.

Tell President Obama to revoke Westboro Baptist Church's tax-exempt status.
Dear President Obama,

I was disgusted by the news that Westboro Baptist Church planned to picket the funerals of children victims of the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school massacre. But I was even more troubled to learn that this organization is still tax-exempt. Please order your administration revoke this status immediately.

Westboro Baptist Church has been designated a hate group by both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League. They constantly harass citizens in their most vulnerable moments -- at funerals -- to promote their hateful anti-gay agenda. These are not the kind of community-building activities tax-exemption is supposed to help promote.

Please recognize this hate group for what it is and make sure it doesn't get a free ride to spew hatred and cause misery.
