Tell the Senate to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!

The attack on our freedom to vote must come to an end.

In August, the US House of Representatives passed HR4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (JLVRAA), to ensure that every American — regardless of where they live, what they look like, or what language they speak — has the freedom to vote.

It is now up to the US Senate to pass this legislation.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court rolled back the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County v. Holder, states have enacted anti-voter policies including illegal voter purges, the closing or consolidating of polling places in communities of color, and restrictive voter photo ID requirements. In 2021 alone we saw hundreds of anti-voter bills like those that the Voting Rights Act was originally enacted to stop.

The JLVRAA represents our best defense against these anti-voter policies. If enacted, it will restore the VRA by creating new criteria for preventing racial discrimination, restoring the ability to challenge discrimination in court, and increasing transparency.

The late Honorable Congressman John Lewis spent his entire life fighting against discrimination and in favor of the freedom to vote. Sign now and urge your Senators to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
Dear Senator:

The US House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act -- which would restore key provisions of the Voting Rights Act -- in August. It is now up to the US Senate to pass this legislation.

The Voting Rights Act has a long history of bipartisan support; it was supported across the aisle during all five of its reauthorizations in Congress and in multiple Administrations. That's because access to the vote is not about politics; it's about justice and equality.

You MUST make it a priority to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. We need legislation that prevents discrimination at the ballot box so that all voters have an equal right to make their voices heard.

Since the 2013 decision in Shelby County v. Holder, local and state politicians have passed laws and adopted practices that discriminate against people of color and language minority Americans, making it harder for them to register, vote, and have their votes counted equally. These actions stand in stark opposition to the promise and values of American democracy.

We can no longer sweep the concerns of voters under the rug. A fully restored Voting Rights Act would protect Black and brown communities against the insidious anti-voter tactics that have risen across the country over the last decade.

As your constituent, I implore you to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!

Sincerely,
[your name]
