Tell the Travel Industry: I won't stand for animal cruelty

Rani, a 27-year-old Asian elephant, is forced to carry tourists up a steep hill to Amer Fort in Jaipur, India. She works for nearly 12 hours each day often without food or water, and can never fully rest when she isn't working because she is always tied up in her concrete enclosure. Her sore, cracked foot pads are just one indication of her suffering.

Working 365 days a year in the hot desert is a far cry from roaming free in the lush forests of Assam where Rani was probably captured as a baby.

Our choices while on holiday have the power to reduce demand for cruel attractions and save the lives of animals like Rani. Whether it is riding elephants, taking selfies with tigers, or watching dolphin shows, these activities can cause lifelong suffering. In the name of entertainment, animals are beaten into submission, deprived of food and water or trapped in cages.

Travel companies around the world profit from some of the cruellest types of wildlife tourist attractions. But you can help end this exploitation and reduce the demand for animals in entertainment.

Sign to send a message to the travel industry that you won't stand for animal cruelty.

For Rani's sake and for the countless other animals abused for human entertainment, here are some animal attractions to avoid if you want to be an Animal Friendly Traveller:

  • Riding elephants

  • Taking tiger selfies

  • Walking with lions

  • Holding sea turtles

  • Watching dolphin shows
