Tell Congress to Make Mental Health a Priority

In the months following the coronavirus outbreak, we have made adjustments to our daily lives to protect our physical health and the public health. But the impacts of the virus don't start and end at our physical well-being — COVID-19 has exacerbated America's urgent mental health crisis.

Some are experiencing loneliness and depression from isolation, stress and anxiety from the danger of catching the virus, trauma and lack of sleep from work on the frontlines, grief from losses, or despair from trying to make ends meet. Our state is feeling the pain, and we need relief to help people get the mental health help they need.

The Senate should pursue every possible avenue to ensure that the demand for mental health and substance use services is met, no matter where someone lives.

When you sign the petition, we'll send a letter on your behalf to your Senators urging them to make mental health a priority in the next COVID-19 relief package. Add your name and join our call on Congress today!

Dear Senator,

As a constituent, I urge you and Senate leadership to prioritize mental health in the next COVID-19 relief package.

The last few months have not just affected people's physical health and our daily life—it's affected our mental health. Some are experiencing loneliness and depression from isolation, stress and anxiety from the danger of catching the virus, trauma from work on the frontlines, grief from losses, or despair from trying to make ends meet. Our state is feeling the pain, and we need relief to help people get the mental health help they need.

People are struggling more than ever. But our mental health system is struggling to meet the skyrocketing demand for help – which, for some in our state, may be the difference between life and death.

The Senate needs to act to ensure states can access mental health services and support. I urge the Senate to boost existing block grant programs at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and increase the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) in Medicaid to provide relief to states.

The Senate should pursue every possible avenue to ensure that the demand for mental health and substance use services is met, no matter where someone lives. Mental health must be a priority when the Senate takes additional action on COVID-19 relief. We can't afford not to act.

Your action to help people struggling with their mental health will aid in our recovery by ensuring that every person gets the mental health services they need to get well and stay well. I hope I can count on your support.

Thank you,
