Prioritize People with disabilities and dedicated direct support professionals for COVID-19 vaccinations!

As we move ever closer to an effective and, most importantly, safe vaccination for COVID-19, states are wrestling with the decision on who will be the first to get the vaccination and be protected from this deadly pandemic. While states have identified frontline healthcare workers and the most vulnerable to get the vaccine first, they have not specifically identified people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and direct support professionals (DSPs), as included in the initial group to get access to the vaccine.

All disability advocates and self-advocates are urged to use the tools to the right of this page to contact their Governor and state public health officials to demand that;
  • Direct support professionals (DSPs) be explicitly identified as essential healthcare workers;
  • All individuals with ID/DD who live in group homes or other congregate residential settings be considered at equivalent risk to older adults who live in congregate settings and thus be included in phase one of the COVID-19 vaccine allocation;
  • And, all people living and working in a single high-risk congregate setting be prioritized at the same tier so that they can vaccinated at the same time.

Sign now to help protect vulnerable people with disabilities and help keep frontline heroes safe and healthy!

To whom it may concern:

I am contacting you to urge that you and your executive team prioritize people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD), an often overlooked but very vulnerable constituency, when finalizing your state COVID-19 vaccination priority framework.
