OLDE SCHOOL BAKE SHOPPE needs your help in Jewett City, Ct

Business partners Jill (owner/investor) and Karl (owner/baker), of an Eastern Connecticut small business, OLDE SCHOOL BAKE SHOPPE, started looking into opening up the new bakery in Jewett City almost 2 years ago, but unfortunately it is still not open.

The factors contributing to this slow progress were beyond what they had initially anticipated, and many out of their control. Once the remodeling process began, it became clear that there were some major issues lying beneath the surface that would have to be addressed. The building that the bakery will be occupying is old and requires a complete upgrade of the entire infastructure in order to bring it up to current safety and structural standards. In an effort to update the space and operate a clean establishment, they have spent much of their working capital on a very small portion of the repairs, as well as the owner of the building investing additional money. While there has been great progress, there's still much to do.

The preservation of this site is important, as it previously served as a landmark bakery for 55 years. Since the closing of that business, the town has been waiting with hopeful anticipation for a new bakery to open because we have nothing like it within miles of our small, rural town. We don't often see a new business come into our town and this one is definitely worth the wait. Jewett City would certainly benefit from a bakery, and we are all very excited to see what Karl can bake.

They have attempted several avenues to see what funding options are available, only to be turned down because those involved underestimate the value and potential economic stimulation that a bakery will bring to our small town and the surrounding area. However, they recently received some good news and are focusing their efforts on obtaining federal funding. While this new approach is encouraging, there is still much work to be done and this is where the residents can help.  By the community coming together in support of getting the bakery established, it will help greatly in the efforts to obtain the funding. With enough support and securing the funding, the bakery hopes to be completed and open by as soon as 2019!

The residents of Jewett City and Griswold are behind them in this endeavor and it is our goal to collect over 5000 signatures. The signatures will be presented in addition to their application and Karl's amazing resume, hopefully garnering the results we have all been waiting for. They need your support to make this happen!
