Automakers: We Want More Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) are growing in popularity around the country, and automakers have announced that there will be nearly 40 new electric vehicle models introduced in the U.S. by 2021.

But only consumers in a few select states are likely to benefit. Recent trends show that automakers are only making EVs readily available at dealerships in states that have EV requirements. That means if your state hasn't passed a law requiring automakers to sell EVs, chances are you won't be able to find many options to buy in your home state.

Increasing the number of EVs is important for improving public health and consumer choice. EVs don't produce harmful tailpipe emissions so places with more EVs on the road will have cleaner air. And the more EVs we can get on the road everywhere, the easier it will be to build the infrastructure needed to support them. Automakers shouldn't leave any potential EV customer behind, no matter where they live.
