Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson: Don't Rush Through Another Mass Execution

In 2017, Arkansas rushed through a series of executions because one of the drugs it uses in its three injection protocol was about to expire. Four men were killed in a week — one in a gruesome scene that involved "convulsions," according to horrified witnesses — while others managed to achieve stays.

Now, the state is running up against a new set of expiry dates. Advocates are worried that Arkansas may schedule another wave of executions as a matter of convenience, since it's becoming increasingly difficult to access the drugs used in executions. That's unjust and inhumane.

Remind Asa Hutchinson that he has the power to refuse to conduct executions, and he could turn Arkansas into a death penalty-free state by default by commuting sentences of death row inmates. Don't leave men like Bruce Ward and Don Davis wondering when the other shoe is going to drop!
