Cast A Person Of Color In The Role Of "Margaret" In Upcoming "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret"

Judy Blume has finally sold the rights to her iconic book, "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret," which means there is a movie version on the way.

I grew up reading Judy Blume and I remember reading this book as a girl and finding it so relatable to my own experiences. I felt like Margaret could be a friend or even me! Which is why I'm calling on the studio and producers of the upcoming film to cast a person of color in the lead role.

Casting a person of color as Margaret would open up the film to be more relatable to people across all backgrounds and experiences and further serve to blur the line of racial bias in casting.  The girl on the cover of the book has always been portrayed as white and Blume has stated that the book is partly autobiographical, but that doesn't but that doesn't mean the actress portraying the character has to be white as the character's experience being brought up in an interfaith marriage is a universal theme.
