Be a Force for Clean Air

The greatest responsibility we have is to leave a healthier, safer planet for our children and grandchildren. Yet, every day millions of American families live, learn, and play in communities impacted by air pollution and climate change that damages our children's health in potentially irreversible ways.

Our children are still growing and developing, which makes them more vulnerable to the effects of air pollution that adults. It starts before birth. When pregnant women must breathe air polluted with smoke, tailpipe emissions and other toxins, it can affect the respiratory health of her baby. Kids who grow up in communities with poor air quality are more likely to develop asthma and other lung problems from breathing in too much smog. Climate change exacerbates the impacts.

Our kids' health is a nonpartisan issue, yet, too often leaders in government ignore the impacts of their decision on our kids. Car companies use their lobbying power to weaken standards that limit toxic emissions. We put off mandating energy companies use technology to limit pollution or switching to cleaner energy sources. Politicians chip away at the Clean Air Act, the best law we have to fight air pollution.

But moms, dads, aunts, uncles and everyone with children they love in their lives are fighting back. They're going to city halls, states houses, and Capitol Hill to urge our leaders to ensure our children have clean air right now, and for their future.
