Republican governors Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott seem locked in a contest to out-do the other in performative spectacles of dehumanizing cruelty towards vulnerable people, be they trans children or innocent migrants. Most recently, the two have teamed up to "own the libs" by tricking 50 Venezuelan immigrants in Texas to get on a plane, fly to Florida and then to Martha's Vineyard, where they were uncerimoniously dumped and left to fend for themselves.
The people of Martha's Vineyard took the immigrants in and gave them food and shelter. But it is beyond appalling to see Republicans using human beings as pawns in an immensely stupid PR stunt — and on top of that, it's illegal!
Demand the Justice Department investigate DeSantis and Abbott for human trafficking!
Section 274(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Immigration and Nationality Act makes it a federal crime to transport undocumented persons across state lines, which both these governors have been doing for months. In addition, California Governor Gavin Newsom has called on the Justice Department to consider kidnapping charges against the Republican governors for their little stunt.
The nation must send a message to its Republican officials and make it VERY clear that human beings cannot be used as stunts for some airtime on FOX News. Prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law!
