Stand with young people to tackle sexism and misogyny in parliament
Girls and all gender-diverse young people in Australia should be growing up believing anything is possible — that they have choices and opportunities in their lives to shape the world they want to live in. Instead, many are forced to abandon their leadership aspirations out of concern for their own safety in Parliament. And we need these future leaders!Sign PetitionSign Petition
The toxic culture in parliament is not confined to any one party, it's pervasive. And change isn't happening fast enough.
In their first campaign for 2021, Plan International Australia's Youth Activists (YAS) have rallied together to draft a powerful set of recommendations on how to improve the culture in parliament in response to the spate of reports of sexual misconduct, alleged rape, and women being victim-blamed, talked over and side-lined in our national parliament.
Everyone deserves the right to live and work in an environment free from harassment and violence. Without this, Australia will continue to be deprived of important leaders — women or people of diverse gender identities and backgrounds — because of the discrimination and abuse they face. Parliamentarians must push for change at all levels, in all parties, so that our parliament can be something Australians are proud of and that young Australians can aspire to be part of.
We ask all parliamentarians to take action now to ensure that Parliament is a truly safe and equal workplace for all women and people of diverse gender identities and backgrounds.
Support our call for action from all parliamentarians and help us drive real change. Add your name and show that we don't stand alone?
