Tell Congress: Support Victims of Military Sexual Trauma

At age 18, Ruth Moore joined the U.S. Navy, where she was raped by her supervisor. Moore reported the attack, and her supervisor raped her again in retaliation. No sexual assault charges were ever brought against her supervisor. It took Moore nearly 30 years to make her case and receive the PTSD disability benefits she deserved.

Servicewomen deserve so much better than this. Tell Congress to pass the Ruth Moore Act of 2013.

Currently, the procedure to access veteran benefits requires victims to first prove the sexual assault before accessing benefits. Because many sexual assaults go unreported or are not prosecuted, survivors often struggle to prove the sexual assault occurred, and thus cannot access the benefits they deserve.

The Ruth Moore Act changes the standard so that survivor testimony is sufficient proof to access disability benefits for military sexual trauma.

Send Congress a message: We must protect and serve the women who protect and serve the United States.
Dear [Member of Congress],

I support the mission of LiveYourDream.Org and am committed to ending gender-based obstacles so women and girls can live their dreams. As an advocate for women and girl-focused issues, and one of your constituents, I want to underscore how important I think it is that you support the Ruth Moore Act of 2013.

The Ruth Moore Act of 2013 helps female veterans victimized by military sexual trauma to receive the support needed to begin rebuilding their lives. This legislation reduces the onerous burden placed on victims to prove the existence of a sexual assault before accessing disability benefits for resulting post-traumatic stress disorder. It also empowers survivors by relying on their testimony.

I urge you to protect and serve the female soldiers working diligently to protect and serve the United States. Please support the Ruth Moore Act of 2013.
