Don't Let Congress Dismantle the Endangered Species Act

Congress is moving quickly to gut the Endangered Species Act, America's strongest and most important law for protecting wildlife.

The Endangered Species Act has a proven track record of success in providing a safety net that protects our most vulnerable wildlife. It has prevented 99 percent of the species under its care from going extinct, including America's symbol, the Bald Eagle. We should allow this critical law to continue to protect wildlife for future generations, not undermine it.

Please ask your members of Congress to oppose efforts to weaken the Endangered Species Act.

To whom it may concern:

As a constituent who cares deeply about America's wildlife, I strongly urge you to protect the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and ensure it remains a bedrock safety net for birds and other wildlife.

The ESA works. This highly successful safeguard for wildlife has saved more than 99 percent of the species listed from going extinct. It has brought back birds such as the Bald Eagle, Brown Pelican, and Peregrine Falcon from the brink of extinction. It also helps to spur important, collaborative conservation efforts that prevent species from becoming so endangered that they require ESA protection, such as the Greater Sage-Grouse.  Additionally, the ESA already includes built-in flexibility that allows for permits and agreements for assisting landowners and others that help achieve collaborative outcomes.

90 percent of voters support the ESA. Any attempt to undermine the law will have harmful consequences for vulnerable birds and other wildlife that matter to me and the vast majority of Americans.

We have a shared moral responsibility to prevent extinction for current and future generations. Please protect the Endangered Species Act and oppose any effort to weaken this vital law.
