Defend the health of our low-income immigrant families!

It's never been a question until now: Feed your family and afford health care? Or sacrifice your family's health to obtain citizenship in the United States?

This past month, the Trump administration proposed a public charge rule that would force immigrant families to make this chilling decision.

The policy would penalize immigrant families by slashing their chances of acquiring their green card just for seeking their legally authorized right to housing, food assistance, and health care program benefits – the benefits that have proved vital in keeping our low income families safe and healthy.

A parent losing SNAP benefits means that their child is going to have less to eat. A parent without health insurance for their sick child means that their child will only get sicker. This proposed rule is a discriminatory assault against the health of our immigrant communities and it needs to be withdrawn immediately.

Join us in submitting a comment to the Department of Human Services. Let's urge them together to do the right thing.

Nobody should have to sacrifice their family's health to obtain citizenship in the United States. And no one should have to make a decision between future citizenship and access to health care, food, or shelter. Our country can only grow and thrive when everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life.
