Stop GOP from Deporting Victims of Domestic Abuse!

The law currently protects victims of domestic abuse; helping them to obtain legal status, visas, or deferrals of deportation. However, the House Republicans are attempting to pass a bill that would take away all administrative discretion for deportation decisions. This means that no allowances will be made for victims of crimes like domestic violence. An abused person can be deported simply for asking for help.

The HALT, or the "Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation" Act makes deferment impossible after the visa cap has been reached and only allows exceptions for anyone who is needed for "a significant law enforcement or national security purpose." It narrows the avenues through which victims can receive exemption from deportation.

We cannot let people be thrown out on their backs just because they are victims of a bad situation. Stop the GOP from passing this thoughtless bill!
Dear Members of the House of Representatives,

The lack of empathy for victims of domestic abuse displayed through the proposal of the HALT act is inexcusable. We are all human beings and deserve the right to be safe in our own homes. You cannot pass a bill that can put people in danger in such a demeaning fashion.

Instead of gaining protection, this bill will force people to leave the country, leaving them in an even more dire state than before. This bill narrows the avenues through which people can receive deferment or obtain a visa and hinders people from obtaining protection from the law.
