Protect Florida seniors and improve access for lifesaving vaccines

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how important vaccines are to preventing disease. Florida seniors rely on vaccines to prevent the spread of diseases and live full and healthy lives. However, vaccines under Medicare Part D, a federal health insurance for people over the age of 65, increasingly have cost-sharing burdens associated with them, which leaves many Part D beneficiaries unable to afford vaccines. This often forces them to choose between their health and financial well-being.
A new Galen Institute report that analyzes the Medicare vaccine policy notes that seniors are generally more susceptible to severe illness from vaccine-preventable diseases. Eliminating cost sharing would increase immunization rates, thereby diminishing the risk of serious disease among beneficiaries and reducing the amount the program spends to treat preventable diseases.
Help us protect Florida seniors and improve access for lifesaving vaccines.
Join us today and tell Florida legislators to put Floridians first and eliminate the cost-sharing requirement for vaccines under Medicare Part D.
Send a letter for Florida lawmakers right now to urge them to consider policies that protect seniors, expand health care equity, and reduce the cost of lifesaving vaccines.
Dear [Representative],
Many Floridians are struggling to afford lifesaving vaccines. Immunizations help prevent unnecessary hospitalizations, expensive health interventions, and additional physician visits and medication costs. Florida seniors rely on vaccines to live full, healthy lives, but often experience high out-of-pocket cost burdens for vaccines under Medicare Part D, which leads many to forgo vaccinations altogether.
A new report says eliminating cost sharing would increase immunization rates, thereby diminishing the risk of serious disease among beneficiaries, while also reducing the amount the program spends to treat preventable diseases.
As a Floridian, I urge you to protect the seniors in our community, and support policies that would reduce cost-sharing burdens for Medicare Part D vaccines. This would improve access to health care and take Florida one step closer to creating an equitable health system.
Thank you,
