Help End the Cruel Bear Shows in Russia

Earlier this month, a horrifying video went viral depicting a Russian circus bear being beaten by his trainer in the city of Syktyvkar. The video begins with the bear - roped and muzzled - being dragged around stage and forced to do tricks for the onlooking crowd. Suddenly, he lunges at his handler only to be beaten back with long sticks by circus employees.

Watching the bear go from docile prop, to powerful wild beast to a cowering giant - all within the matter of seconds - is heartbreaking. While the crowd screams in horror, the bear quickly falls back in line after receiving several wallops and begins performing again.

This bear has no idea why it is being forced to walk backwards, spin in circles or push a bicycle. And when he pushed back because he couldn't handle it anymore he was beaten to submission.

Bears, like other animals are not entertainment ,they have their own will and desires and deserve to live a life free from cruelty - preferably in the wild where they belong. These types of shows minimize a living, breathing animal down to an object that can be forced to do as we want, when we want. It's not only wrong, it's cruel.

Let's call on governor Sergey Gaplikov to ban these dancing bear shows in the city of Syktyvkar and and the entire state. They are cruel and belong in the past. Tell Russia we are watching their treatment of Animals, and we don't approve.
