Stricter Punishments for Those that Commit Bestiality

A 45 year old man was apparently so overcome by temptation when he saw two dogs mating that he decided to join in. The South African man said he chased the male dog away and proceeded to have relations with the poor defenseless female.

Making this story even more horrible is the fact that the 8-month-old pup was only saved when - after hearing howls of distress - her 10 year old owner ran out to discover the man violating her dog and shooed him away. Never mind the absolute horror of the entire situation, but the distress the pup, the young girl and her parents must have gone through is unimaginable. How do you explain to your child what they just saw?

For this disgusting crime the man got a mere slap on the wrist. Even though the judge admonished his crime as “serious, unnatural and barbaric” she gave the deviant a suspended five-year sentence. That means he won’t serve a day in jail and is already out on the streets. Meanwhile, the young girl is scheduled for therapy.

This is unacceptable. Bestiality is not only animal cruelty, it is a crime in South Africa yet the punishment is left up to the judge rather than a mandatory minimum sentence. So offenders like our perpetrator could actually serve no time in jail they may not even be forced to get the therapy they need.

Animals, like children need the protection of the law to keep them out of the hands of those who would do them harm. In order to do so, stricter laws and punishments should be in place and applied in cases as egregious as this.
