Protect People and Bees From Dangerous Pesticides
In Oregon, we now have the chance to protect our families, farm workers, and the environment from two dangerous pesticides — Chlorpyrifos and a class of infamous pesticides known as Neonicotinoids (neonics).
HB 3058 and HB 2619 would prohibit the use and sale of chlorpyrifos and restrict the use of neonics.
Chlorpyrifos, a neurotoxic pesticide, can wreak havoc on a child's developing brain and can harm farm and field workers who are exposed to it. Chlorpyrifos has already been banned in Hawaii. Now we need to do the same here in Oregon.
Neonicotinoids are a particularly potent family of pesticides whose use is detrimental to bees and other pollinators. In 2018, the European Union banned neonicotinoids in order to prevent bee populations from collapsing. Here in Oregon, we hope to limit and regulate their use.
HB 3058 and HB 2619, would take neonicotinoids off regular market shelves and require industrial buyers to pay a fee, get a license, and take a class on safe pesticide usage before buying.
We have the opportunity to protect our families, farm workers, and the environment from these dangerous pesticides. But, we can't do it without you.
