For months, communities across the country, in Minnesota and beyond,
have lived in terror as federal immigration enforcement agents have patrolled, surveilled, detained, disappeared, injured, and killed civilians, as well as denied people's constitutional rights by attacking and arresting peaceful protestors.
Yet our Congress, despite being made up of officials we the people elected, has played a pivotal role in funding and enabling this government-manufactured crisis, and they must act to stop these attacks.
We need you to stand with the League to demand that:
- Reject additional funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), or immigration detention;
- Investigate ICE, CBP, and the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS's) use of force;
- Impose additional DHS guardrails and accountability measures on immigration enforcement; and
- Take steps to protect the constitutional rights of civilians to peacefully protest and assemble without having their lives threatened or taken.
It is time for all of us to stand up, speak out, and demand an end to these heinous actions. No agency or elected official is above the law. Democracy cannot endure when its government uses violence to silence dissent and evade accountability.
Sign and tell Congress: Federal Immigration Enforcement has gone too far!Our country is reeling from the immeasurable harm that escalating federal immigration enforcement actions are inflicting on our communities. Armed, masked agents have been deployed into American cities, surveilling, detaining, disappearing, injuring, and killing civilians. After manufacturing this chaos, the Administration has threatened military escalation. Our democracy is in grave peril, and Congress must use its constitutional authority to act.
As your constituent, I am calling on you to take action immediately. I demand that you:
- Exercise your constitutional authority and investigate Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS's) use-of-force policies, training, rules of engagement, supervision, and post-incident review practices, as well as incidents themselves.
- Impose additional guardrails and accountability measures on immigration enforcement efforts, including cooperation with local law enforcement when civilians are injured or killed.
- Take steps to protect the constitutional rights of civilians to peacefully protest and assemble without having their lives threatened or taken.
- Reject additional funding for ICE, CBP, or immigration detention.
The American people across identities and political affiliations are unified in their horror and outrage. There are few defining moments in history, and we are in one of them. Your actions, or lack thereof, not only impact the safety of our communities, but the imminent future of our democracy.
