Stop the Brutal Killing and Eating of South Korean Dogs

Dear Mr.Kim Mo Im,

We, the undersigned, are going to do whatever it takes to stop the brutal killing and eating of dogs in South Korea.

Around 2 million South Korean dogs are strangled, electrocuted, or clubbed to death each year. They are boiled, skinned, browned by a torch, chopped up and eaten. This dog meat is sold in markets, stores, or shipped away to other countries.

Around thirty percent of these dogs are stolen from loving families and the rest are taken off the street by butchers and sold in open market. The most horrible thing about all this cruelty is that authorities are doing nothing about it. These abuses are against the Korean law and against Animal Rights, but still nothing is being done to stop this madness.

The government states that the citizens only eat dog meat in great times of poverty, such as World War 2. That is a lie; dogs were still treated as companions in the hard times. What ever happened to man’s best friend?

When profits decrease in the selling of this meat, greedy dog traders encourage the myth that dog meat increases sperm count and general health. This industry is illegal but still sells hundreds of dogs a day, dead and alive. They bribe police and thugs to promote the idea of eating canines to animal welfare companies and pay off newspapers to feature the morality of dog meat.

Although many Koreans don't agree with the selling and eating of dog meat, there are at least 6,484 stores nationwide performing this horrible trade. Even though this is outlawed, Korean dog breeders keep secret dog farms where they feed and keep the dogs until they are the right size to be sold.

We need to put a stop to this madness and cruelty! It is inhuman; and dog meat contains way too much iron for a human to live on. Please help stop this!
