They Adopted a Donkey, Just to Find Out She Had Been Brutally Tortured and Had to Be Humanely Euthanized. Justice for Sophie!

Sophie the donkey was adopted from a Pennsylvania farm on May 26. By May 27, Sophie was dead.

Sophie was in horrific condition -- she was skin and bones and barely able to breathe. Plus, she was dealing with a painful hoof condition and had many teeth that were nearly falling out.

Sophie had clearly been put through severe abuse and neglect for a long time, and it was only when she was adopted that she finally found some compassion and mercy.

But Sophie should never have gotten to this condition; she should still be alive and healthy today.

That's why we're asking that you join us in demanding justice for Sophie by signing the petition!

When Sophie was adopted, her new owners must have immediately known something was wrong -- maybe that's why they adopted her in the first place. They got her to an equine vet as soon as possible the next day. What this professional found will break your heart.

The poor donkey's "body score," which is a measurement of an animal's healthy weight, was a 1 or 2 out of 9 -- meaning she was basically emaciated, ribs showing and backbone jutting out.

The vet also noted that she had almost no airflow going through her lungs. The inflammation and scarring in her lungs were a telltale sign that she had been struggling to breathe for a long time. Sophie had a horrible cough and "foul smelling" discharge coming from her nose.

Her hooves were peeling, exposing their vulnerable, sensitive interior. And many of her teeth were loose.

This poor donkey must have been in so, so much pain.

Even more heartbreaking is the fact that on the farm where Sophie was put through such torturous neglect, she had a mate that she had been with for nearly two decades. That donkey, Luke, died just months before Sophie did -- was Luke put through similar cruel treatment?

Sophie's condition is an alarm bell for the rest of the animals on that farm. The owner has thankfully been arrested and charged with felony charges of animal cruelty, including torture. But no matter the outcome of her trial, we need to immediately make sure the remaining animals are taken care of -- her farm must be shut down at once and all of the animals must be sent to loving adoptive homes or sanctuaries!

Sign the petition demanding this torture farm that killed Sophie be closed, and all the animals saved!
