Tell Congress it’s time to deliver and invest in home care and good jobs

  • by: SEIU
  • recipient: U.S. Congress

Right now, Congress has a historic, once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in care workers — most of whom are women of color and immigrant women — by delivering on the Build Back Better package with a historic investment in home and community-based services. This economic transformation will raise wages and economic security for care workers; make home care jobs good jobs with dignity and good benefits; and positively impact our economic recovery by allowing workers to participate in the economy, which will create an estimated 1.1 million new jobs each year over the next decade.

The need for care is universal. Investing in care will benefit us all — that's why we are demanding that Congress include a historic and transformational investment in care as part of the Build Back Better agenda.

Sign the petition to tell Congress to invest in Care to raise the wages of home and community care workers, and ensure working families get the care they need immediately!

Dear [Your Members of Congress]:

Home care workers are essential/frontline workers who have selflessly cared for others during a global pandemic. Despite this, they make an average of just $17,000 a year usually with no benefits or workplace protections. The largest payer for care in the U.S. is the federal government. That's why we need to finally invest in care to make these jobs good-paying union jobs.

I urge you to invest in care to raise the wages of care workers and to make these jobs good family-sustaining union careers.

We have an opportunity to transform care in this country and redefine "women's work" as the cornerstone of the economy that it is. We can provide high-quality care for our nation's parents, grandparents, and people with disabilities through good union jobs.

Congress must finally raise the pay for home and community care workers and give them the right to a voice on the job.
