Microsoft – Ban Virtual Tours of Ringling Bros. Elephants Depicting Abuse They Endure

  • by: Sue Lee

Elephants are beautiful, majestic, highly-intelligent animals that are too often exploited and abused.  Yet, Microsoft has proposed to offer virtual field trips for “educational” purposes for children. Read more on about these tours at http://www.paulareverepress.com/2016/08/20/save-the-elephants-save-the-world/ & http://www.peta.org/?s=Elephants+Chained+Up+to+23+Hours+a+Day%E2%80%94Microsoft+Offers+Virtual+Tours+of+Facility

The main issue and concern is why would Microsoft want to highlight the abuse elephants endure at Ringling Bros. through “educational” virtual tours for children?  This particular tour is based out of Florida at a breeding compound where elephants live chained on cement floors for days on end, being threatened by abusive bullhooks often used for training purposes.  Bullhooks are indeed weapons that resembles a sharp fireplace poker.  This is not the type of information children need to learn about the life of elephants.

It was a huge victory to remove elephants (and other animals) from the circus scene at Ringling Bros. only to have the animals living in what is dishonestly named as a breeding facility where they are continually enduring abuse.  Making it worse, the horrific care of these animals is introduced through these proposed virtual field trips.

The purpose of this petition is to urge Microsoft to put an end to these virtual tours of elephants at the Ringling Bros. abusive breeding compound.  It is more beneficial to highlight elephants in their natural habitat like those at the Elephant Sanctuary (TES) in Tennessee. You can support this issue and stop these virtual tours by signing and sharing this petition along with adding your own comments and thoughts in protection of the animals.

Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft – I strongly urge you to put an end to the proposed virtual tours or field trips of elephants at the Ringling Bros. abusive breeding compound for educational purposes. The tours you are engaging in is at a Ringling Bros. breeding compound where elephants live chained on cement floors for days on end, being threatened by abusive bullhooks often used for training purposes. It is more beneficial to highlight elephants in their natural habitat like those at the Elephant Sanctuary (TES) in Tennessee. Stop the abuse by highlighting abusive care of elephants and show them as they are meant to live.
