Prime Minister Trudeau: Reject Big Oil’s secret demands

Don't let the oil industry exploit the coronavirus pandemic to roll back climate action.

Documents leaked to our friends at Environmental Defence have revealed how Big Oil is attempting to exploit this health crisis to roll back climate legislation.

In the leaked memo, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) asked eight members of Justin Trudeau's cabinet to exempt the oil industry from environmental impact reporting regulations, postpone the planned carbon tax increase, and halt future climate policies.  They even asked for Indigenous rights legislation not to be implemented.

Big Oil does not want you to know about this. The industry body also asked the federal government to scrap rules requiring it to publicly report on its lobbying efforts. In other words, it doesn't want the public to know about its attempts to influence our government in pursuit of its own interests.

This is a blatant attempt to exploit the coronavirus pandemic to side-step democracy and back-track on climate action.

The government needs to hear from us, too. If enough people speak out now, we can drown out the voice of Big Oil. Add your name now to remind the government that they serve the people, not polluters.
