Keep Jasper National Park from Becoming Privatized

National parks in Canada may be taking a turn for the corporate.

Part of Jasper National Park is being considered for privatization by an American company, and construction of a metal walkway is set to be blasted into its World Heritage Mountains.

Sadly, the proposed construction of the walkway will deface World Heritage mountain range's natural composition.

The point in having national parks is to ensure the preservation of the nation's natural wonders. The government funds national parks to keep alive the natural majesty that makes the country proud.

If the government is not providing enough money to support national parks and they have to look elsewhere for funds, something is wrong. The corporatization of our national parks is not the direction we want to be going in.

Tell Jasper National Park Superintendent Greg Fenton that privatizing even part of Jasper National Park is setting the stage for national parks to be exploited as moneymakers.
Dear Superintendent Greg Fenton,

I am writing to express my deep concern for the future of Jasper National Park, and the future of Canada's many other national parks. It has come to my attention that there are plans to make private a portion of Jasper National Park and arrangements for a 300m metal walkway to be blasted into its World Heritage Mountains.

Privatizing even part of Jasper National Park is setting the stage for national parks to be exploited as moneymakers.

It is important to note that the entire point in having national parks is to ensure the preservation of the nation's natural wonders by the state. The government agrees to fund national parks to keep alive the natural majesty that makes the country proud. Tourism is secondary.

If the government is not providing enough money to support national parks that they have to look elsewhere for funds, something is wrong--they are not holding up their end of the bargain. However, the corporatization of our national parks is not the direction we want to be going in.

Please protect Jasper National Park from being compromised by monetary interests and outside companies. I urge you to end the plans to construct the walkway and negotiations with Brewster Travel and other for profit companies.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
