Oh, Canada: Protect the Arctic from Oil Spills!

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is destroying Canada's environment, and now he's threatening the Arctic with oil spills.

Prime Minister Harper has made it clear that he will do whatever it takes to push through dirty oil development -- even if that means trampling on Indigenous rights and environmental protections while ignoring the risk of Arctic oil spills. Just imagine an oil spill like Deepwater Horizon happening in the Arctic.

Stephen Harper wants to stand up for dirty oil - we're standing up for people and the planet. Join us.

Now Canada is taking over as Chair of the Arctic Council, an international forum set up to ensure the health and sustainability of the Arctic region. For the next two years, the Harper government will set the agenda for the Arctic. Stephen Harper has the power to prevent Arctic oil spills from happening before they start.

Take action today and join our campaign to protect the Arctic. Tell Harper to uphold the Arctic Council's environmental agenda, and protect the Arctic from oil drilling and spills.
Dear Prime Minister Harper,

A crisis is unfolding in the Arctic. Temperatures are rising, ice is melting, and people and wildlife are under threat.

As Canada takes the Chair of the Arctic Council, you have a choice: you can stand with the oil companies and help them drill for more of the fossil fuels that got us into this mess in the first place, or you can stand with the people of the Arctic and the people of the world. As a global citizen, I am calling on you to help advance:

- A ban on offshore oil exploration and extraction;
- A moratorium on unsustainable industrial fishing;
- Urgent action on climate change; and
- A global sanctuary in the uninhabited area around the North Pole.

Mr. Harper, the eyes of the world are on you. What happens in the Arctic affects us all. Please make Canada's agenda for the next two years one that promotes a healthy, sustainable Arctic -- not reckless development, runaway climate change, and oil spills.
