New COVID-19 Legislation Must Include Critical Patient and Physician Protections!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the nation, Congress passed the "Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

Unfortunately, it is now becoming clear that it may not be enough.

The CARES ACT was a meaningful first step in preserving the health care infrastructure in this time of crisis by providing immediate financial support for hospitals, physicians and other health care clinicians, offering small business and emergency loans to physician practices and expanding telehealth for physician/patient consultations.

As the pandemic continues to grow we know more needs to be done to protect America's patients and those that are on the front lines taking care of them.

Congress is already discussing a "phase four" coronavirus relief bill package. Now is the time to encourage Congress to take additional steps to help protect and expand access to care for patients and support physician practices. Any additional coronavirus relief package should include:

• Protection of patient access to care by continued direct financial support and small business loan access to help sustain physician practices so they can stay on the front line in the battle against COVID-19

• Continued support for the expansion of telehealth services to improve access to care for patients with ongoing health care needs as well as for COVID-19. Including coverage for telephone services, which is particularly important for patients with limited technological resources in their homes

• Additional support for resident physicians and medical students as they're rushed into hospitals and emergency rooms across the country to help combat the growing pandemic

• Ramping up the production of personal protective equipment (PPE) to combat the desperate shortages currently faced by health care providers

Please take action and tell your Congressional representatives that any additional COVID-19 relief legislation should include the physician and patient protections outlined above.
Please pass Phase 4 COVID-19 legislation

Thank you for recently passing the CARES Act.

As Congress considers next steps on any additional COVID-19 legislation, I strongly urge Congress to take additional steps to help protect and expand access to care for patients by supporting physician practices as a critical part of the nation's essential health care system.

Any additional COVID-19 relief package should include:

I urge you to ensure that any additional COVID-19 relief legislation includes these additional protections for patients and providers.

Thank You!
