We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to create an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary – the largest protected area on Earth, five times the size of Germany.
The Antarctic not only helps keep our planet cool, but is also home to an abundance of wildlife – from whales, seals and orcas to millions of penguins.
But a changing climate and an expanding commercial fishing industry are putting the area and its inhabitants under real pressure. This year, all but two Adélie penguin chicks have starved to death out of a colony of almost 40,000 birds.
We have the power to create a safe haven for these animals. Our government is part of an Antarctic Ocean Commission which has promised to protect the Antarctic waters.
In October 2018, the Commission will meet again to decide whether to create a sanctuary and we can make this meeting count. Sign now and urge the UK government to protect the Antarctic and its species by supporting an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary.
Thank you for all that you do.
