Get Edge Hill University to enforce parking permits!

  • recipient: Edge Hill University Facilities Management
This is a petition to get Edge Hill University's Facilities Management team to enforce parking permits properly.  We need 2,000 signatures to make any sort of impact.

As we all know, the parking situation at the University is dire.  There are a lot of arguments about parking, who's responsible, it's the councils fault etc.

The way I see it; there is one very simple solution.

Edge Hill offers parking permits to those who do not live on campus and gives them out accordingly.  Yet there are no provisions in place to stop people WITHOUT permits coming on to campus.

What is the point in a system with no enforcement?

Wouldn't the parking problem simply go away if people without permits were not allowed on campus?

Very, very simple yet we still have this problem.

For visitors without permits, I propose the front car parks are 'free for all', that is, people without permits may use these car parks in exceptional circumstances, for meetings and one-offs.

That way, those without permits who need to be on campus once every so often can still park, and the system is not abused.  Restrictions on parking for non-permit holders would surely result in a drop of cars on site, and a rise in the number of legal, permitted cars.

Since the application for a parking permit has the times when you are going to be on campus stated, the University can indeed monitor traffic flow and determine when car parks are most likely to be at full capacity.
