CHANGE OAK BAY BYLAW 3891 THAT MAKES HOME OWNERS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CARE/REPAIRS TO OUTDATED WATER UTILITY INFRASTRUCTURE.

  • by: Sheelagh Flynn
  • recipient: Kevin Murdoch, and the rest of the OAK BAY COUNCIL

Do you think that you should pay for the repair of OBs Municipality's aged water/sewer pipes infrastructure near, or on your property, when they break? Well, unlike in other Municipalities OB has a By Law that makes it compulsory for you to do so. And if you refuse to pay, your home will not be connected to any OB Municipality water/sewer sources until you so. In other words, you will be held hostage for the cost of the repair. Incidentally, a cost for which we already pay our Utility, and other payments throughout the year.

If you find this information to be new to you; or, you realize that this is just too much of a Municipality Cash grab. There is something you can do. We can change the offensive By Law. Let the People Speak!!

Many thanks.

OAK BAY MAYOR  AVOIDS OPPORTUNITY TO REDRESS AN OBVIOUS MONEY GRAB BY THE MUNICIPALITY IN BY LAW 3891:  ONE THAT DOES NOT  HAPPEN IN OTHER MUNICIPALITIES; AND, IF YOU DON'T PAY UP, YOU WILL BE HELD RANSOM BY BEING DENIED WATER SERVICES!  Read on:

The Legalease used in the ByLaw is, to the uninitiated, quite unintelligible. However, in a nutshell, the end result is that should one fall foul of this arbitrary Bylaw, the cost to the homeowner will be in the thousands of dollars!! And most people are unaware of this Bylaw, until it is too late. Oak Bay's sewer bylaw, believed to be unique in the capital region, makes property owners responsible for ALL maintenance on any of the pipes connecting their properties to the sewer mains. PLEASE SIGN ANS SHARE, we'll let the OB Council hear what we all think about Bylaw, and how we want it CHANGED.
In the past, an OB Engineer, that the  sewer laterals, the storm water and the sanitary sewage in Oak Bay, their maintenance, cleaning, servicing and the replacing, if it needs to be replaced, is the responsibility of the property owner."
ARE YOU GOING TO SIT BACK AND JUST LET THIS GO ON, OR ARE YOU GOING TO JOIN YOUR VOICE WITH THAT OF YOUR NEIGHBOURS, IN A RESOUNDING REJECTION OF THIS BYLAW?
We are stronger when we stand as one. PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE ON FACEBOOK, EMAIL, AND ON TWITTER. Many thanks.
