Permanently Fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), one of the government’s most effective tools for protecting public lands, is under attack.

The LWCF uses proceeds from the use of one public resource—oil and gas drilling in federally owned waters—and reinvests them to ensure outdoor recreation for all Americans. For more than 50 years, this program has helped fund protection and management of everything from national parks and forests to close-to-home recreational areas, ensuring every family has access to the outdoors.

Despite overwhelming bipartisan support for LWCF, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and the Environment is working on a bill that will cut its funding by 32%. While this cut is less than what President Trump proposed, it would be a significant reduction that will put public lands at risk.

Protecting funding for the LWCF should be a top priority for Congress, but we need you to make your voice heard on the issue.

Urge Congress and your representative to protect the LWCF and ensure the future of America’s public lands and iconic places.
To the U.S. Congress and President Donald Trump:

President Donald Trump has said he'll "honor the legacy of Teddy Roosevelt," and I want him to live up to that promise. Congress failed in 2016 to permanently renew the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), one of the most important sources we have to protect our public lands.

For more than 50 years, this program has helped fund protection and management of everything from national parks and forests to close-to-home recreational areas, ensuring every family has access to the outdoors.

Every time the LWCF has come up for renewal it has received bipartisan support, and with good reason. Protecting our shared public lands is not a partisan issue, it's an American one. When it comes to parks and land, there are no "red" or "blue" voters—only green voters.

Permanently funding the LWCF should be a top priority for Congress and the Trump Administration. Please permanently renew the LWCF to ensure the future of America's public lands and iconic places.
