We the residents of the Town of Superior want the new Board to evaluate and address the unintended consequences and resident opinion of the temporary closure of Weldona before spending $50,000.00 on a permanent closure.

We ask the new Board to reverse the vote and permanently reopen the intersection of 88th St. and Weldona Way for these reasons:

We object to using Tax Payer Funds for a permanent closure. We object that the Town Comprehensive Plan and 2017 Traffic Safety survey was ignored which measured 82% of residents wanted the intersection open in 2017. We want to ensure safety for all for direct access for emergency needs and reinstate the school bus stop at Elmoro for children. We want to reopen this multipurpose access that is sustainable and environmentally sound rather than forcing motorists to drive up to an extra mile each way adding to air pollution as well as having the increased expense of maintaining roads and vehicles.

 TAXPAYER FUNDS: We object to spending $50,000 for a cul de sac that closes a functioning road of 25 years service.

 TOWN OF SUPERIOR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN: We object to the Board ignoring the Town Comprehensive plan that states: roads are to CONNECT neighborhoods and MINIMIZE UNNECESSARY TRAVEL. The closure adds 3+ mins. and a mile when driving NE. This is NOT environmentally nor economically sustainable to roads nor vehicles and adds air pollution.

 RESIDENT SAFETY: This closure has an adverse safety impact to residents in case of fire, police, medical emergencies or evacuation.

 CHILD SAFETY- Bus Stop Moved: We object to children now having to board their school bus across Coal Creek Drive having a 35mph speed limit making it unsafe to cross without adult supervision instead of in the middle of Weldona along Elmoro. The speed humps dropped the speed on Weldona over 6 days from 28 to 16 mph making it safer for everyone.

 TRAFFIC SURVEY RESULTS: We object that the decision ignored the traffic survey results from June 2017: 83% voting to keep Weldona/88th open in some form and only 17% to close it. Traffic speed dropped from 24 to 16 mph with stop signs and speed humps. The mean in other Rock Creek areas is 28 mph.

 SUSTAINABILITY: We object to the Town ignoring their own ACES, Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability, goals: "To support environmental sustainability to include management of waste, water and energy, and other activities that support resource conservation, improved air and water quality, and climate change mitigation."
