Cops killed cows that were running for their lives. Investigate the lethal use of force on an innocent animal!

Three cows managed to escape a slaughterhouse and were found desperately running for their lives in Missouri. Yet two of them ended up dead immediately -- killed by local police forces -- and the other was brought directly back to the slaughterhouse only to be killed a few hours later. Police forces should simply not be using excessive force and slaughtering animals on the job. There is no excuse for this behavior from any member of the criminal justice system.

The police claimed that the cows were killed after they "exhausted all options," but the entire exchange took place in less than one hour. Police are supposed to protect communities, not kill innocent animals. One of the cows that was killed was found roaming around on a local football field, posing no threat to anyone. These cows escaped the horrific conditions of a slaughterhouse, and even if they were scared or tense, should have been taken care of using non-lethal strategies.

In other instances of cows escaping slaughter, the cows were taken to sanctuaries and cared for, able to live out their lives in safety and comfort. An escaped bull found in Long Island was rescued and is now living at Skylands Animal Sanctuary in New Jersey. Two other escaped cows in California were saved and taken to Farm Sanctuary in Afton, California. Cows do not need to be killed if they manage to escape the grotesque and inhumane conditions of a slaughterhouse: they should be treated with care and dignity.

Blue Springs Police Department must investigate this killing and ensure that no more animals are killed by police officers in the future. Sign now to demand an investigation and justice for the cows lost!
