For many years, this government agency has abused what they do. In no way shape for form do they help the Children of Puerto Rico. Instead they do, well plain and simple nothing!
A government agency funded by tax dollars taken from its very own people should be easily accessible. If that is the case, why during normal business hours is there never anyone available to answer the phone? Why doesn’t anyone bother to return a phone call? It is impossible to get answers to any question you might have.
For the custodial parents that receive a monthly deposit that is paid directly to the agency by the non-custodial parent, well plain and simple these payment are held for an undetermined amount of time or just never released at all. Furthermore, the non-custodial parent is able to print receipts to serve as proof payment has been made, yet for some reason a debt will begin to accrue. It doesn’t matter if you have a lawyer and a judgment has been determined, this agency will not abide by the judgment and continue to do as they wish. Finally, there have been instances where case-workers have been allowed to handle their family member’s files, causing a major conflict of interest.
These are just a few practices they allow. You don’t believe me, just ask anyone that has had to deal with them.
This archaic system needs to be overhauled. All employees, volunteers and interns of ASUME should be required to go through rigorous training which includes lessons on unfair practices, laws that protect the children and a major lesson in Ethics! Puerto Rico is a US Territory and both the Government of Puerto Rico and the United States need to step in and stop thE insane CORRUPTION of this agency. Their cruel, unjust and unfair practices are causing major grief to not only the citizens of Puerto Rico and the U.S. but more importantly the children who are supposed to benefit from the services of they provide. Their protocols are affecting the wellbeing of these children. Let's all band together and take a stance and ask that this agency receive a much needed overhaul!
