Tell Congress: Protect federal nutrition programs for children

Right now 1 in 5 kids in America are at risk of hunger. There are federal nutrition programs exist to provide kids with the food they need to be healthy, happy and live up to their full potential. But some of those programs are now at risk.

Congress is working to reauthorize the Farm Bill, legislation that provides funding for one such program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program, formerly known as food stamps.

There are current proposals to make drastic cuts to SNAP, despite the fact that nearly half of all SNAP participants are children. If Congress cuts funding for this poverty relieving program, it will affect millions of children and families, leaving them even more vulnerable to hunger.

SNAP is vital for making sure kids all across America have access to the health, nutritious food they need to thrive - no matter what hard times or road bumps their families encounter. Let Congress know that we can't afford to cut SNAP and leave our children hungry!
Dear [Representative],

As a supporter of the No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America, I am writing to implore you to protect funding for critical federal nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (SNAP) as you work to authorize the Farm Bill.

I understand that Congress has tough decisions to make about federal spending. SNAP, however, is critical in protecting kids from the impacts of poverty. Nearly half of all SNAP participants are children and cuts to SNAP will burden those kids with long-term consequences to their health, education and economic futures.

With high unemployment, record numbers of families are depending on federal nutrition programs to provide food for their children. These programs are critical in making sure all American children get the food they need to reach their full potential.

Let's not balance the budget on the backs of children who need us.
