bears forced to perform in The Great Bear Show suffer greatly, River's Edge Convention Center management in St. Cloud, Minnesota, appears to be moving forward with plans to host this cruel spectacle—which is run by Bob Steele—at the St. Cloud Sportsmen's Show beginning on February 10.
*** THIS ALL ABOUT CREED *** BEARS BELONG IN THE WOODS-NOT TO ENTERTAIN
Have you seen the methods that circuses and other outfits use to force captive animals to perform tricks? If that's not heartbreaking enough, consider the following information:
•The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) cited Steele twice for failing to provide a bear named Barney with adequate veterinary care after two different inspections revealed that he was missing large patches of hair and scratched his bare skin excessively.
•Steele carts around an arthritic bear named Andy, who has exhibited a labored gait and is apparently often confined to enclosures with concrete substrate and no padding, which can exacerbate his already painful condition.
•The USDA cited Steele for handling bears in a manner that endangers their safety as well as that of the viewing public by failing to keep them under his direct control, not having them on leashes, and using barriers that were insufficient to separate them from observers.

In light of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus' announcement that it will close in May and SeaWorld's decision to end its orca-breeding program, it has never been clearer that the public no longer supports the use of animals for entertainment. Please join us in letting River's Edge Convention Center management know that an arena filled with noisy crowds is no place for wild animals

I was disappointed to hear that River's Edge Convention Center management plans to allow The Great Bear Show to perform--even after learning that the show's operator, Bob Steele, has a history of failing to provide bears with adequate veterinary care and failing to handle them safely. As you know, bears traveling with Steele suffer greatly. All of them are overweight, one has a chronic skin condition, and another has arthritis. Steele has been cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for putting bears and the public at risk by failing to handle the animals safely. Please prioritize animal welfare and public safety by canceling The Great Bear Show. Thank you for your time.
