Right now, 102 laws in 26 states across the United States prohibit BDS (Boycott, Disinvest and Sanction) movement participation. In some cases, like in Texas, employees can be required to actually sign an oath promising to support Israel; in fact, at least one person has lost her job because of her refusal to sign it.
This is disturbing on several levels: Not only does it infringe directly on Americans' First Amendment speech and protest freedoms, it permits a foreign entity to dictate the behavior of American citizens. Were similar laws requiring a pledge to support Russia or Saudi Arabia enacted, there would be an enormous uproar. How is this any different?
Call on the incoming Congress to pass new legislation explicitly protecting the freedom to demonstrate and forbidding the protection of foreign interests by adding your name to this petition!
