Support UNICEF’s Effort to Equitably Distribute COVID-19 Vaccines!

UNICEF and partners are leading the largest vaccine procurement in history.

COVID-19 has upended the lives of children and families across the globe. Since the start of the pandemic, UNICEF has worked relentlessly to reduce the spread of the virus and minimize its negative impacts on children.

Every year, UNICEF helps immunize more than 45% of the world's children —in some of the most remote places on Earth. UNICEF is the only organization with the infrastructure, experience and expertise to lead this effort. UNICEF is leveraging its unique experience as the world's largest vaccine buyer to procure and deliver COVID-19 vaccine doses to the world's poorest countries, as well use its incredible strength in community engagement and social mobilization to build demand for vaccines. In 2021, UNICEF's job is to ensure equitable delivery of 2 billion vaccine doses, as well as diagnostics and therapeutics, to more than 180 countries around the world. But that can't happen without access to vaccines: vaccine nationalism and shortfalls in production have put these plans in jeopardy.

Join us in alerting Congress of UNICEF's leadership and the resources needed to end the pandemic and safeguard the futures of the world's most vulnerable children.

Dear [Legislator Title] [Legislator Last Name],

COVID-19 has upended the lives of children and families across the globe. Since the start of the pandemic, UNICEF has acted to reduce the spread of the virus and minimize its negative impacts.  Even so, the impacts on children are enormous: COVID-19 has set back progress for children by at least a decade, increased poverty, interrupted education, exacerbated inequalities, increased child abuse and jeopardized physical and mental health. More information can be found here: https://www.unicef.org/coronavirus/covax.

UNICEF is a key partner in the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-A), a worldwide collaboration to curb the effects of the pandemic through a comprehensive and equitable approach. Under the ACT-A vaccine pillar (called COVAX), UNICEF was tapped by the World Health Organization, CEPI and Gavi to lead the procurement and logistics necessary to deliver COVID-19 vaccines for the COVAX Facility to more than 180 countries across the globe.

Every year, UNICEF helps immunize more than 45% of the world's children —in some of the most remote places on Earth. UNICEF is the only organization with the infrastructure, experience and expertise to lead this effort. In 2021, UNICEF's goal is to ensure equitable delivery of 2 billion vaccine doses as well as therapeutics and diagnostics.

But that can't happen without access to vaccines: vaccine nationalism and shortfalls in production have put this schedule in serious jeopardy.

In order to stop this pandemic everywhere, UNICEF needs ongoing U.S. Government support to procure and distribute vaccines, train health workers and combat vaccine hesitancy. UNICEF USA applauds the U.S. Government support for Gavi and its commitment to donate 80 million excess doses to other countries. But we can't stop there, the United States must donate additional excess doses, through COVAX as much as possible.  In addition the United States should support UNICEF to deliver vaccines and supplies, work with countries on their readiness for equitable vaccine distribution and ensure children around the world recover from the effects of this pandemic.

No one is safe until everyone is safe.  Ending the pandemic is in U.S. national and moral interests and is directly related to fulfilling UNICEF's mission of helping children. Please support UNICEF to help restart the world and rescue a generation of children from COVID-caused setbacks.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
