Tank and Nila back home

Master Tank and his lifemate Nila are two dogs who were taken out of
Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, although their owners had entrusted them to a temporary shelter to be cared for until they could find a new family home.

Tank and Nila were taken to
Florida, separated from each other and sent to different households, despite the fact that they were a bonded pair that had lived together since they were puppies. They now spend their days isolated from their original family and apart from each other.

While a protracted custody dispute rages, we the petitioners believe it is wrong to keep these two dogs apart from each other and request that their current caregivers reunite them in one household, and cooperate to ensure a speedy resolution to the legal proceedings.

Nila and Tank, before Katrina

WHEREAS Master Tank and Nila have been constant companions since they were puppies;

WHEREAS up until Katrina, these two dogs spent their days with a loving family of four, where they had ample opportunity for socialization and companionship;

WHEREAS Master Tank and his companion Nila were taken out of Louisiana after the federal levees failed in the greater New Orleans area;

WHEREAS although it was known that they were a bonded pair, they were separated from each other upon their arrival in Pinellas County, Florida, and adopted out to separate households;

WHEREAS legal proceedings that would make a final determination on the ownership of these two dogs continue to be drawn out;

WHEREAS Master Tank and Nila, having spent their entire lives together are now in isolation from each other;

WHEREAS Master Tank's current caregiver has publicly stated that he has started to show behavior disorders and aggression, uncharacteristic to him prior to his being taken to Florida and separated from Nila and his family;

WE THE UNDERSIGNED
believe that it is wrong to keep Master Tank and Nila separated from each other and request:

  1. That Master Tank and Nila be reunited with each other without further delay, and live together in one home, and
  2. That the parties in the ownership dispute cooperate to ensure a speedy resolution to the legal proceedings.
