North Carolina is world-renowned for its spectacular coastline and the wildlife and abundant fisheries it supports. But right now, our coast is threatened by proposed offshore drilling for oil and gas. This reckless plan presents significant risks and no rewards.
The coast's tourism, recreation, and fishing industries would be significantly threatened by offshore drilling activities. Drilling for oil and gas would also jeopardize the survival of endangered species including the loggerhead sea turtle and right whale. Can you imagine a drilling disaster near wildlife-rich Cape Hatteras or the reefs off Wrightsville Beach?
There's too much at risk to let this plan go forward! It's up to us to show our state and federal leaders that North Carolinians don't want oil and gas drilling off our beautiful natural coast.
