A petition to raise awareness for undergraduate student food insecurity on Tennessee Public Universities

Recent studies have shown that more than 42 million Americans are at risk of hunger and 1 in 5 children in the United States faces hunger as well. We have seen much awareness being raised in the last few years to address these two issues, however no one has commented on the high number of students at undergraduate universities who suffer from food insecurity. In Tennessee the number of students who are food insecure is closer to 1 in 3. This has not been an issue raised by many in the last few years, but we at the University of Tennessee's Swipe Out Hunger, want to raise awareness on how this issue impacts our campus as well as other state run universities across the state.

We are calling on all students, teachers and faculty at state-run universities to push our general assembly to support schools to record their food insecurity statistics as well as funding food pantry's at least four days a week on campuses throughout the state. This issue is not going away anytime soon and we need your support to reach Nashville and our state legislators!
